It is the standard community fix, and thousands of owners run it through Russian and Kazakh winters — so yes, it is common practice, not an experiment. Three things to check before you buy: physical size and terminal layout (the tray and leads must accept the bigger case without force), the hold-down bracket, and that your electrician resets any battery-monitoring adaptation after the swap. One honest caveat: a bigger battery treats the symptom. If even a fresh battery keeps dying, the drain or the charging path is the real patient — the battery sensor and the DC-DC conversation — and that diagnosis is worth doing before winter number three. Probably not. A DM-i at low charge is a small 1.5L engine simultaneously propelling a two-tonne car and refilling its battery — power drops, noise rises, and owners who bought the car for its silent glide understandably worry. That is the architecture, not a fault, and the fix is habit: keep the battery out of the basement, especially in winter and before fast highway runs, where sustained 110+ km/h drains it faster than the engine can refill. It becomes our conversation when the dash joins in: engine light, stored codes, limp behaviour at normal charge. Then the code readout plus the VIN gets you a real diagnosis and, if needed, a real part — sensors, turbo-related hardware and wiring items are what high-mileage owner threads actually point to.

The opposite, for years. A discontinued model with a million-plus cars on the road is the best-supplied thing in the aftermarket: parts production keeps running long after car production stops, and dismantlers add a growing used stream. What does change is who serves you — official counters deprioritise old models first, especially in small markets, while the independent channel gets deeper. Read the letters, not the styling. A part born on the Han carries HC-family letters; the Tang EV carries STE, the Tang DM-i STHA — and by default, assume differently-lettered parts are different parts. But BYD builds on shared platforms, so the fence has real gates: in our file, one compressor (HCEF-8103020) is listed for Han, Tang and Song EV together, one TPMS sensor (SC-3609200) covers Song Plus, Tang and Qin, and one rear hub spans Song Pro and Han. The honest rule: the letters tell you where a part was born, the VIN tells you whether it fits your car — and the unified 8-digit numbers say nothing about the car at all, so with those the VIN is the whole answer.
