The Challenge
A national highway project required 50,000 metric tons of steel rebar within a strict 3-month window. Relying on local market stock was impossible due to price volatility and insufficient quantity.
The site was 800km inland from the nearest port. Transporting such massive volume via standard containers would have blown the budget and clogged the logistics chain.
The Solution
Xilink bypassed the retail market entirely, going straight to a state-owned steel mill in Northern China.
- Direct Mill Production: Secured a dedicated production run to ensure all rebar met the British Standard (BS4449) required by the engineers.
- Break Bulk Charter: Instead of containers, we chartered a Break Bulk vessel, loading the rebar in bundles directly into the ship's hold, reducing freight costs by 35%.
- Cross-Border Convoy: Arranged a fleet of flatbed trucks at the destination port for immediate ship-to-truck discharge, minimizing port storage fees.

The Result
The project received a steady flow of materials without a single day of downtime. By locking in the steel price at the factory gate, we saved the client an estimated $1.2 Million compared to buying from local importers.
